Alpha Shutter is an iPhone remote shutter for compatible Sony cameras, with interval shooting, long-exposure tools and optional Photo Location, without taking over your camera’s Wi-Fi.

WHY ALPHA SHUTTER
A remote that stays out of the way.
Alpha Shutter connects directly to compatible Sony cameras over Bluetooth Low Energy. There is no Wi-Fi camera-control session to establish, so the camera remains available for normal photographic use while the iPhone provides the remote tools you need.
FEATURES
Bluetooth Remote Shutter
Press and hold to focus, then release to capture. Alpha Shutter is designed around familiar photographic shutter behaviour, including autofocus and manual-focus workflows, without requiring a Wi-Fi remote session.
Interval & Long Exposure
Run Camera Controlled interval sequences or timed BULB exposures from the iPhone. Supported interval workflows are designed to continue while the phone is locked or another app is in the foreground.
Photo Location
Send the iPhone’s current GPS position to supported Sony cameras over Bluetooth so the camera can write location into the original photo metadata. Once Photo Location is Active, photos taken with the camera’s own physical shutter can also receive the latest position.
On supported Sony cameras, the same Bluetooth Photo Location link can also keep the camera’s date, time and time zone aligned with the iPhone.
Multi-camera Control
If more than one suitable Sony camera is nearby, choose the one you want to control. Alpha Shutter preserves that choice and does not silently switch to another camera.
BLUETOOTH BY DESIGN
Bluetooth by design.
Alpha Shutter’s camera-control and Photo Location workflows use Bluetooth rather than a Sony Wi-Fi remote session. At the current beta baseline there is no advertising, no analytics SDK, no Alpha Shutter account and no custom Alpha Shutter cloud backend. Beta feedback is sent only when the user chooses to send an ordinary email.

Alpha Shutter is currently in external beta testing across a growing range of Sony cameras, firmware versions, iPhones and iOS versions. Compatibility is feature-specific: a camera that has not yet been verified is not automatically unsupported.
